October Student Spotlight: Sal Serra (Berkeley College Student / EHS New Yorker Resident)

What is your hometown? Buffalo, New York

What school do you go to? Berkeley College, class of 2014

Why did you decide to come to NYC?  Ever Since I came here when I was 11 years old I have come back every year since. I love New York City, it’s like no other city on earth. I have traveled Europe, America and most of the Caribbean and no city compares.  The saying goes “If you can’t find it in New York, it’s nowhere” — that is very true.  Also, I go to school for fashion and this is the American capital for fashion.

Every year after we visited and I got on the plane home I always knew there would be a time I didn’t have to go back. Sometimes I still can’t believe I live here. I fall in love with the city all over again when in the morning I walk out my door in the morning, get my cup of coffee, get on the Subway, and walk down Madison Avenue to school.

How did you find out about EHS? My school — I booked because it looked nice!

What do you like best about living with EHS and at the New Yorker so far? The location cannot be beat. Any train I want to take home is just minutes away. Also, when friends and family come visit they can stay right in my building!

What things about coming to NYC were/are you excited about? The fashion and the vibe of the city. People are always on the move and things are always available.

What were/are you worried about? Being too busy.

What do you hope to get out of your time in NYC? I hope to take every opportunity that comes my way and learn and do things that I could have only done here; to take advantage of the world culture that New York City really encompasses.

What are you favorite things to do in NYC so far? I love to go shopping, go out to the Meatpacking district, and hang out in the West and East Villages.

Anything else you’d like to share about yourself or your experience with EHS? I’m 21 years old and a Fashion Marketing major. I love New York City and hope never to leave.

EHS thanks Sal for spending a few minutes catching up and sharing his exciting life with us! Watch this space for a new student spotlight every month…
